“1991: The Year Punk Broke”
Of all the Nirvana-related things being released around the 20th anniversary of Nevermind, this is the most exciting; the DVD re-release of Dave Markey’s film that I know inside out from my teenage years. Nirvana are good, but Dinosaur Jr are better and Sonic Youth are unbelievable in this film.
“A friend of mine always tells the story of a Sonic Youth concert in St. Louis a long while ago, Goo tour if I recall correctly. I believe it was the same night that the episode which revealed who killed Laura was airing for the first time; I didn’t get into Twin Peaks until a bit after that so it didn’t mean much to me at the time. Before the show, they placed a TV out on stage so people could watch it.”
